II International Congress on Religious Freedom and Freedom of Conscience

The Chair of Religious Freedom and Freedom of Conscience of the Ramon Llull University, part of the Blanquerna Observatory of Communication, Religion and Culture, is a research and dissemination space whose main objective is to study and analyse the situation of religious freedom and freedom of conscience in Catalonia.

The 2nd International Congress on Religious Freedom and Freedom of Conscience, organized by the Chair of Religious Freedom and Freedom of Conscience of Catalonia and the Blanquerna Observatory on Communication, Religion and Culture, will take place in Barcelona on the 5th and 6th June 2024. The meeting will have the following goals

  • To share local, regional or international best practices in managing religious diversity and promoting freedom of religion and conscience.
  • To analyse international standards for assessing the exercise of the right to freedom of religion or conscience and for preventing violations.
  • To stimulate debate among experts and heads of international organizations on the international situation and trends in freedom of religion and conscience, as well as on methodologies, categories and indicators for analysing the reality of religious freedom.

The conference will take place at the Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations (Ramon Llull University).

Proposals for academic communications to participate in the Conference must include an abstract with the main conclusions of the article and the methodology (maximum 500 words), as well as the affiliation/institution to which the author belongs.

Practical proposals that explain initiatives on religious freedom, promotion of interreligious and interfaith dialogue are also welcome. In this case, a summary of the presentation of a maximum of 500 words is also required, as well as the institution of the author/s.

The proposals can be sent until the 14th of April 2024 at catedrallibertatreligiosa@blanquerna.url.edu.

Every proposal (accepted or refused) will receive an answer before the month of May 2024 after being reviewed by a committee.

The Congress will begin at night on the 5th of June 2024 with a welcome drink. The 6th of June it will continue with different presentations, and it will finish on that afternoon.

It is necessary to indicate in the inscription to the Congress if a communication/initiative is being presented. Students and URL staff (degree, masters or PhD) will enjoy a discount.

Everyone will be given an assistance certificate, and to those presenting a communication, a certificate that specifies that a communication was presented at the Congress.
