AGÈNCIA FLAMA
Flama is a Christian and Catalan news agency dedicated to the dissemination of religious, social and cultural information. The agency is an independent and non-profit media at the service of the Catalan Church and Catalonia.
Origins and aims
Created in 2005 on the initiative of the Sub-federation of the Pastoral Teams of Politics and Communication of the Federation of Christians of Catalonia (EPPC) and promoted by the Bishop of Barcelona, Monsignor Joan Carrera, it was created with the aim of contributing to the application of the Second Vatican Council and the resolutions of the Tarragona Provincial Council.
Its name comes from the weekly magazine that, between 1931 and 1936, the Federation of Young Christians of Catalonia promoted with the aim of spreading Catholicism among Catalan youth and reporting on the events held by its members.
Flama reports on events from the smallest of faith communities to the sphere of the ecclesiastical magisterium, and also on issues that have to do with the various aspects of human life and with the protection of its cultural, political and economic rights. This task is combined with efforts to highlight the positive dimensions of ecclesiastical and social action, without falling into the easy recourse to systematic criticism or flattery, and with a clear intention to make the Gospel and the Social Doctrine of the Church more present.
Ideology
Rooted in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council and in the teachings of the bishops of Catalonia contained in the document ‘Arrels cristianes de Catalunya’ (Christian Roots of Catalonia) (1985), and in the content of the resolutions of the Provincial Council of Tarragona (1995), they are guided by the protection of human dignity and social justice.
