First reading seminar with Heidi Campbell’s book

This Tuesday, March 15th, the Blanquerna Observatory on Media, Religion and Culture held its first Reading Seminar on key texts in religion and communication. On this occasion, the introduction and the first two chapters of Heidi Campbell’s book, “Digital Creative and the Rethinking of Religious Authority” were studied in depth. The following chapters will continue to be studied in the next sessions.

The meeting was moderated by the members of the Observatory Alba Sabaté, Valentina Laferrara and Verónica Israel, who focused on the meaning and characteristics of a religious authority in the digital environment. Campbell’s book seeks to answer the following questions:

  • What is a religious authority on the Internet like?
  • Is it still exercised by offline leaders and institutions?
  • Are confessions hiring digital media experts to modernize their role on the digital platform?

Thus, the Blanquerna Observatory continues to team up and deepen its religious and communication knowledge.
