Journal of Religion, Media and Digital Culture (JRMDC)
The Journal of Religion, Media and Digital Culture is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes three issues per year. This publication is a cooperation with the International Society for Media, Religion and Culture (ISMRC).
Understanding religion today requires understanding how religious ideas and practices are communicated, learned, represented, enacted and resisted through the media. Religion circulates through social media, discussed in the news, and is a source of imagery for movies and television. Popular understandings of religious belief and practice are formed by encounters with their representations in journalism and entertainment media. In addition, religious institutions also conduct their own media, from radio and television preachers to religious video games. This journal aims to be a forum for the exchange of new empirical research and theoretical analysis on these and other intersections between religion, media, and culture. Its primary focus is on recent and contemporary media, but historical studies are also considered.
