The Blanquerna Observatory on Media, Religion and Culture took part on 14 January 2026 in an academic roundtable dedicated to the 2025 International Catalonia Award, organised by the Government of Catalonia and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed). The event offered a privileged space for the exchange of perspectives among representatives from academia, institutions, and civil society.
The session featured interventions by the award recipients Yael Admi and Reem Alhahajra, founders of the movements Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun, who presented the principles and trajectories of their initiatives, aimed at promoting peace, social justice, and security from a grassroots perspective with strong female leadership.
The roundtable brought together university faculty, researchers, members of social organisations, and figures from the political sphere, including Jaume Duch Guillot and Agustí Fernández de Losada Passols, fostering a plural dialogue on the current challenges of conflict resolution and the construction of sustainable peace.
Throughout the discussion, the need to conceive peace as a comprehensive process was emphasised—one that goes beyond diplomatic agreements and is grounded in listening, the recognition of shared suffering, and the pursuit of viable political solutions.
The event reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the links between academia and civil society as a means to promote a culture of peace based on coexistence, equality, and collective responsibility.
