The Blanquerna Observatory represented by the new intern Kira Neumann participated in ENCATC‘s thought-provoking event “Towards a New Culture Compass for Europe“, which brought together cultural policy experts and practitioners to reimagine Europe’s cultural future. As researchers examining the intersection of media, religion and cultural dynamics, we found particularly valuable the discussions about evolving frameworks for cultural management in our rapidly changing societies.
The event highlighted three crucial challenges for European cultural policy: addressing digital transformation while preserving cultural authenticity, developing more inclusive approaches to cultural participation, and rethinking how we measure cultural value beyond economic metrics. The emphasis on training future cultural leaders to navigate these complex transitions offered concrete pathways for implementing theoretical approaches in practice.
For our research team, this event underscored the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in cultural policy development. The proposed initiative, “Culture Compass”, represents a promising effort to balance Europe’s diverse cultural traditions with the need for shared frameworks in an increasingly interconnected world.
