The Blanquerna Observatory on Communication, Religion and Culture participated in a session on the occasion of the Setmana de l’Harmonia Interconfessional organized by the Grup de Treball Estable de les Religions (GTER) this past Monday at the Parlament de Catalunya with the matter ‘Religion and Happiness’.

The event presided by the Parlament’s President, Carme Forcadell, the General Director of Religion AffairsEnric Vendrell, and the president of the GTER, Mohamed Halhoul, counted with the intervention of the professor in Sociology José Antonio Rodríguez and the researcher and sociologist Joan Hernández -both from the Universitat de Barlona-, who presented a study that they have carried out together about happiness.

Jordi Sànchez, deputy director of the Blanquerna Observatory on Communication, Religion and Culture and coordinator of the project, presented the initiative that gives protagonism to the living testimonies of the happiness achieved by the dedication to others, the Catalan missionaries that work for their communities around the world.

The project gathers the testimony of faith and happiness around the world through interviews with the Catalan missionaries of the five continents. This project visualizes them and explains their story, as well as placing them in the first interactive map of Catalan missionaries. “We give voice to the people who say they are happy because of their beliefs”, told Sànchez.

The deputy director of the Blanquerna Observatory showed an audiovisual summary of the interviews that have been made until now -sixty of them- and concluded that, matching with the results presented, “happiness comes from giving yourself to others”.
