Last Monday, February 9th, Blanquerna Observatory on Media, Religion and Culture member Xavier Memba attended an online webinar on “The Global Compact on Refugees and the Role of Faith-Based Organisations in Refugee Protection”. This webinar was composed by a two pannel meeting organized by HIAS Europe, the Lutheran World Federation and the Quaker Council for European Affairs and Islamic Relief Worldwide. With more than 200 atendees, the Compact addressed the complex nature of forced displacement and the role of faith-based organizations in supporting implementation, both within Europe and beyond. Memba joined representatives of the European Commission, UNHCR, governments, FBOs, refugee organizations, and grass-roots activists who discussed and shared experiences on the impact of the GCR, the role of these faith-based organizations in implementing key pledges, as well as the opportunities and challenges for forging effective partnerships.
