Dr. Ruth Tsuria, Professor at Seton Hall University and an expert on the intersection of digital media and religion, presented her work Keeping Women in Their Digital Place: The Maintenance of Jewish Gender Norms Online in a webinar organised by the Blanquerna Observatory on Media, Religion and Culture and moderated by doctoral student and Obs member Laia Palos Rey. During the session, Tsuria addressed how digital platforms can both challenge and reinforce gender norms in Orthodox Jewish communities, exploring how digital space serves to negotiate complex issues such as relationships, sexuality and diversity. She concludes with a call for these virtual environments to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
